Lately, all my relatives started acquiring iPhones (from the 3GS to 4S) and my need of having one was only growing by seeing everyone pleased with their gadgets.

Which leads us to 15/12/2012, the day after the new model was launched in Brazil. I started a treasure hunt to this thing, it was impossible to find one in carriers’ stores so I got an overpriced one instead and that didn’t even bothered me, you see.

I won’t be getting into an awful description as everyone is already aware of capabilities of the iPhone. I did however, had a problem with it and that was: Whenever I conected to wi-fi, I couldn’t get over 0.2mbps speeds, which for a 10mbps plan was really unsatisfatory. I tried everything others facing the same problem told me to on Apple Forums, I could get up to 1.2mbps but it was stresful to see my friends 4s and 4s’s getting full speed while my brand new iPhone 5 wasn’t able to. It came to a point where my 3G connection was faster than the wi-fi, which is ridiculous.

Fortunately, I’ve waited for the OS updates and last week on 6.1 that problem was finally solved and I’m getting 10.3mbps on my phone and I can finally enjoy it’s full capabilities.

Being the owner of an iPod Touch since it was first announced, I’ve definitely have my own personal favourite apps and maybe I’d get back here someday to talk about ‘em. The thing is, the iPhone has been on my “insert any holiday here“‘s wish list, unfortunately it costs over USD$1000 for the cheaper model in Brazil (we pay so many freaking taxes, it’s just absurd) plus the mobile plans are way over the top, there’s still a long way to go for Brazil to even be compared to United States/United Kingdom.

I’m unemployed and my parents are going thru rough times (financially), so my dream gift will remain on my wish list for a while, the bright side of this is: whenever I get my own, it will be way better than the current! :P We all know how Apple loves to make you feel obsolete for having a last season’s iPhone, LoL.

Why I've stuck with my 2nd generation iPod Touch.

As apple-fans, we have all experienced at some point the gigantic urge to get rid of our recently (or not so recently) but perfectly working iGadget. Apple keeps introducing new products at every 3 months, maybe more… I haven’t exactly looked it up but it sure feels like a lot less time than that.

Things have gotten a lot worse in the last few weeks, (F.Y.I: my ipod was officially kicked out of the Apple’s list of products that would still get firmware updates, which leads me to be stuck with iOS 4.2.1 (8C148)), you can imagine how disappointed I was back in the days when I’ve found out about it.

Getting us back in the track here, iOS 5 was released and I absolutely loved it on the iPad, which only make me wish I had the most recent update of the iPod to experience what iOS 5 did with it, not only the better graphics capability and camera (which isn’t great AT ALL, but still, better than none).

See, it’s only human to desire buying a better product and if you have the extra money to keep yourself all up-to-date I say: GO FOR IT! there’s no warm in that. But as a total mortal I’ve got a lot extra bills to pay other than tech toys and it’s not like the economy is is great shape either, so, I’ve decided to focus on what I’d need the new iPod touch for and that is:

Surf the web.

Play games.

Listen to music.

Take crappy photos to post on Twitter.

Experience iOS 5 on the new iPod Touch with better graphics.

The things listed above with exception of numbers 4 and 5, can actually be achieved with my current iPod and therefore, are not crucial, leading me to the point of realization that I don’t NEED the new iPod Touch because mine is working just fine and even though some games and applications aren’t exactly compatible with it anymore, I can still enjoy it most of my time. As for crappy pictures on Twitter, my phone already does that.

So here’s the lesson: Whenever thinking of buying a new product to replace your old one, create a list of characteristics that have made you want to do the trade in the first place. Are they extremely important to you? Will you be using it everyday? Is it something your old product wasn’t able to provide? If so, then go for it. It’s just always nice to take a look at things in different perspectives, it makes you see things clearer.

Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson - Why I think everyone should read it

The long-waited biography of the mind behind Apple’s success is finally out. We were awaiting for this book even before Steve passed away, which was something that hit us with an enormous amount of shock, yet it made us wish for this book even more.

For every single one of us Steve Jobs was behind, at least of one moment that have had defined us as who we are today. He changed the industry not only once or twice, he kept trying to amaze us (as in a society) to do better and to think different. We all have called the man by his first name even though we’ve never even met him, he managed to become a friend of ours, an inspiration or in the worst case scenario: a good role model.

We should all get to know him a little better and though it may not be as if we are one of his closest friends, it’s better than just keep imagining. The book starts up with a great amount of personal photographs that have already been seen on the 60 Minutes documentary, they were all shot by his close friend and photographer Diana Walker.

I haven’t started the book yet, I’ve only flipped some pages and I’m excited to do so. The book talks about the creative process of Steve’s, his relationships with co-workers and how he felt after memorable keynotes, in both good and bad ways.

You can get your copy via iTunes or Amazon. I will probably get a hard-cover book after finishing my digital version, only because I think this biography is something I’d like to keep in my coffee table or right beside my bed. I also think Steve would be really proud of ourselves for having one on our iDevice (whichever it is).

Nikon D60, 50mm f/1.8.

Nikon D60, 50mm f/1.8.

Cleaning your Apple Keyboard.

For starters that had recently became an owner of either the powerful iMac or a Macbook White (‘cause they are still sold in many countries ‘till they eventually run out) the white keyboard might even be something to be concerned about at a first glance, as we all know, white gadgets tend to get dirty 100 times faster than darker ones.

But as we might suspect, having an Apple product (even a white one) shall cause you no trouble at all. This is the first time I’m cleaning my keyboard and I own it for about 16 months, that is because I’m careful with it.

We will be following the instructions given to us by Apple itself on their website. Here’s what we’re going to need:

White Apple keyboard of any kind.

A lint-free cloth.

Water.

Patience.

First of all we need to power off/unplug the keyboard to be able to remove the batteries, that should be a piece of cake if you’re on a Wireless keyboard, use a coin to rotate it until it pops out, and keep it in a safe corner of your table.

Now let’s grab the water and spray it a little bit on our cloth until it’s moistened, I’m using one by Apple that came with my iPod Touch, if you wear glasses you can also use the ones that came with it, but be careful.

Warning: Don’t get moisture in any openings or use aerosol sprays, solvents, or abrasives.

Take your time and clean your Apple keyboard, try not to rush your way thru the whole cleaning process, it’s better to do a good job that took you more time than a clumsy cleaning process that will end up being nothing but an effortless try, and that’s it.

Be proud of yourself for caring for you computer enough and not wanting it to be completely dirty, hope this was helpful in any way.

The iPad Transition

It’s been a few months that I’ve been having this gigantic desire of buying an iPad and yesterday I just couldn’t take it anymore, went out for a brave iPad hunting w/ my parents. Ended up buying from an authorized Apple reseller in the mall. Bought the 32Gb Wi-fi model, which was the one I always wanted. Words can’t express how pleased I am with it. Thanks mom and dad, thanks Apple.
